WATCH: Mama monkey shown giving her baby a bath and it gets us talking about mothers

As a new Durbanite, Carol Ofori had to learn about the monkeys and the mosquitoes the hard way. So when we saw this video, we thought, this is a different way of seeing our neighbourly friends, the monkeys. 

We all have monkey stories to share, whether it is about them plotting a raid of that piece of fruit from your kitchen island, or rummaging through your bin to find something tasty. Let's just say we can relate to each other when it comes to the monkey stories.

But very rarely do we give these little (sometimes big) primates the benefit of the doubt when it comes to being endearing and loving. Of course, we know that they are quite protective over their young and their families, but we seldom give them more than that...

So when we saw this video of a mama monkey giving her baby a bath, we immediately thought of how sweet it was. Some of the other onlookers related it to the motherly love of all primates, and one person even said that it is very similar to the bath a South Indian mother would give her baby. That is quite interesting for us. 

Because at first glance, we couldn't relate to the manner of the bath, because it felt like the baby was being drowned at one point, but it goes back to the premise, that motherly instincts do exist amongst all mothers, regardless of where they come from.

When it comes to mothers and the way they teach us, we have got to say that we know that tough love is a regular for many mums out there. As we move into the weekend and also the end of the month, we want to say, thank you to all mothers for putting up with us. 

We appreciate you and we look forward to celebrating you all this upcoming Women's Day. To our favourite primates, thank you for keeping us on our toes and we see you, and your efforts at showing love.
