"Remember there's no such thing as a small act of kindness. Every act creates a ripple with no logical end," Scott Adams.
There's something about giving someone eye contact that can be so real and engaging. It can really make someone feel seen. But somehow when it comes to the forgotten people in society, most especially the homeless, we evade eye contact because maybe it is too painful to look into their eyes.
On the other hand, there are many skeptics when it comes to addressing the homeless. Many people have heard, even fallen victim to crimes and scams involving some homeless people and that has left a terrible taste in their mouths when it comes to this part of our community.
A philanthropist, filmmaker, and life coach, BI Phakathi, who has a large following on social media, is a name that brings positivity and kindness to the foreground of every conversation.
It takes a lot of courage to address the forgotten parts of our community, but he manages to share his purpose with the world by inspiring kindness. He recently shared a video on his Facebook page of a Durban homeless man, whose name is Raja.
As much as it's sometimes easy on our conscious to assume that homelessness is a choice, sometimes, it's better to not judge but rather to listen and to extend a hand of kindness. This is exactly what BI Phakathi inspires on his page...

After hearing Raja's story about the injuries he had gone through whilst working and losing his wife to colon cancer, it is a true testament of how sometimes life can deal you a hand that is beyond your control.
We hope that he pursues his dream of opening up his own shop and that he can spread the kindness that he has received.
