It is in fact possible to enjoy the full offerings of a wine tasting without drinking the wine.
"According to Jeannique Swiegers of Simon Wine Emporium, wine tasting includes various steps that start from the appearance of the wine, its smell, and finally what it does on the palate for those willing to put it in the mouth and spit it out later." (Business Insider)
Essentially, this means that you can have all the joys of wine tasting without the after effects that come with drinking too much wine.
Swiegers further explained that the point of wine tasting is to determine the wine you are looking for and rate it...
Sorry, Swiegers, not to undermine your expertise, but that's not always the intention of wine tasters. Sometimes it's just about going out and having fun, whilst enjoying the drinking...
So the main steps involve noticing the appearance of the wine, noting things such as clarity and colour.
Then there's the smell phase, which is an aromatic experience. Interestingly enough it is said that there are over 10,000 aromas you can get from varied wines.

And, finally, there is the step of whether you want to spit or swallow. Wine tasters have the option of deciding if they want to spit or swallow after smelling the wine.
Now it does sound a bit unruly but Swiegers explains that there are very elegant ways of doing this.
Allowing the wine to swirl around your tongue is sort of the cherry on the top. It is that part of the experience that solidifies the appearance and smelling steps.
But as mentioned you can spit instead of swallowing, and the great part of spitting is that when the wine is exiting your mouth, you can taste the different notes.
In essence if you are looking to wine taste without the swallowing, it is totally doable and as you can see you are not losing out on any of the key steps.
