#TheBestOfTheWeek: DBN family swapping homes to a Tongaat business going up in flames
Updated | By East Coast Radio
We look back at the week and point out some key highlights and what we have learnt from this week...
The past week has been a real eye opener to many of us. Some of us realised that we are stronger than we think, others reconnected as a community, while some realised that family is pretty much everything and having their support and being close to them is priceless...
Carol Ofori is a fairly new Durbanite, she is learning the ways around the cultures and the traditions and as we all know, she is rocking it with her family. When the rioting and unrest took place last week, she was very uneasy about it all, considering she has her two kids with her amidst all the violence.
So when she came through to studio with a can-do attitude and decided to put KZN first, it absolutely made us feel proud to be part of her team. She put her personal feelings aside and she rocked at being there for KZN.
Her biggest highlight of the week was her interview with Rishi Rajkumar from Tongaat. He owned a general shop in Tongaat, which was a family-run business for more than 50 years, and he lived not far from his shop.
When the looting began he closed up shop and thought that he, his shop, and his family were safe. But that wasn't the case, as he stood at his window he saw his shop being looted by community members, the same community he has been servicing for years. On top of that, his shop was burnt and he has now lost everything.

Another story that got us feeling for community members was the reports of some shops hiking their prices for bare essentials. Carol Ofori was contacted by some community members who said they were paying ridiculous, inflated amounts for things such as bread, flour and oil.
Yes, the prices of these items have inflated due to the pandemic and lockdown, but people were saying that they were asked to pay R40 for loaf of bread, which normally retails for R15 to R17 during normal times.

And then we hear about a story of our very own Durbanites, the Jooste Family. They joked for years about moving house and then finally at the beginning of this year they decided to make a change and move into a bus.
This family weighed out the odds and realised that they were paying rent for a home that they were not fully utilising. By moving into a bus, they were reducing their carbon footprint, spending more quality time together and even saving money...
