#ThankfulTuesday: "Going back to Grade 12 was one of the hardest decisions"

It's definitely never too late to go back and redo something that is important to you.

It's never an easy thing to go back and do something over.

But as soon as we move away from what society expects of us and realign ourselves to what we want out of our lives, it becomes easier.

One such woman that showed us anything and everything is possible is Thembeka Cebekhulu (23) from Empangeni in northern KZN.

She made the decision to redo her matric after she realised that she had no interest in the course she was studying.

"Cebekhulu said she first did matric in 2018, when she was 17 years old, and got a bachelor’s pass, no distinctions and a 27-point admission score." (Citizen)

Despite her not being happy with her results, she managed to get a place at Durban University of Technology (DUT) in Pietermaritzburg. Here she would study public management, "a course she never knew existed until she was told it was the only course available at the time for the points she had." (Citizen)

"Cebekhulu said she considered dropping out, but her loved ones encouraged her to see it through." (Citizen)

She did in-service training during her final year of studies, and as much as the people were great, she was not happy in the actual work.

She would cry so often that she said she almost slipped into depression.

In 2020, she made the bold decision to go back to school and redo her matric.

"It was tough, I won’t lie. People in my community said I was crazy and I was one of the oldest kids in the class, but I was determined to see it through." (Citizen)
