As you all know, snakes are not our favourite reptilians, they are fascinating creatures, but we would opt to stay at the far corner of the other side of the room or continent when it comes to being around them.
In saying that, we feel that Carol Ofori speaks for many a non-snake fan and that is why we wanted to share this unique story about two male black mambas that were found in the same home, a week apart from each other.
Nick Evans, our resident Snake Rescuer, shared an interesting find on his Facebook page last week. He posted two pictures of black mamba snakes. Both male, but different snakes, that decided to surprise a family in Cato Ridge with an appearance.
Two black mambas under the same bed in the same house a week apart. After receiving a phone call from a man last week, Evans said that he was surprised that the second snake was found in the same place, in the same house just after a week.
He went on to say that he was even more surprised that this was the first time the family had a slithery visitor in their three years of living on the property, considering they live on the edge of the bush.
I tried my same trick of moving the bed away from the wall slightly, and grabbing it from above. It didn’t work too well. I pulled the mamba up gently, but it started twisting and I could see I was going to hurt it, so I let go. It moved along the wall, and I grabbed it further along at the opposite corner of the bed.

The reasoning behind two black mambas appearing in the space of a week in the same place, isn't quite answerable by Evans, who said that it isn't mating season, but anything is possible with nature.
Whatever the reasoning, we are elated that the family are safe, and that the snakes are safe and sound back in their natural habitat. More than that, we are happy that we have Nick Evans, the man who makes us feel somewhat safe amidst all the slither action...
