A security officer by day and student by night has graduated
"It's never too late to determine your success and change your life."
Sometimes it is difficult to stay on course when it comes to your dreams in life.
Obstacles are thrown your way and you can quickly become demotivated, but there's always someone out there pushing through and making it work.
And that should be motivation enough. One person who did this recently is Victor Thambe, a 29-year-old man who stuck to his dream of becoming a teacher.
Thambe matriculated in 2014 and had been through his own tough path, before deciding that it was time to do better.
He started by giving himself three options to choose from. Any one of these would become his story: becoming a cheat in life, owning his own business or going to school and furthering his education.
And education won. He chose this option because he believed he could see this goal through.
We found that to be extremely reflective of him. So often people stray from their purpose because of the inability to visualise themselves seeing it through. The lack of confidence is what leads them to fail before even beginning.
He started his journey off by working at a grape farm. After saving money, he was able to earn his security qualifications and became a security guard.
"Thambe's security qualifications later landed him a job in 2016 with the Fidelity Security company as an armed guard at a cash-and-carry supermarket and security officer at the North West University's Mafikeng campus." (News24)
After finding out he could study with financial support, he decided to apply and was successful, but he still kept his job as he had a child to support. He asked his employer for night shifts so he could attend classes during the day.

"I would attend classes in the morning and go to work in the evening. As security officers, we are not allowed to sleep at night, so often at times, I'd use that time to complete my readings and assignments." (News24)
Thambe's determination and ability to push through the most unideal circumstances is a great reason to remember to be grateful.
He shared a lovely message on News24, saying: "It's never too late to determine your success and change your life. Don't listen to other people because they will discourage you. You determine your success, and you don't need anyone else to tell you how to do it."
Thambe works at a small primary school in Dinokana Village where he teaches Grade R and Grade 1.
