SA influencer Kay Yarms leaves Dis-Chem and Clicks without Dawn Body Lotion

Who's the one influencer in this country that you definitely get influenced by?
We are all privy to those products that promise to do something and actually don't. But the thing about it is that as consumers we sometimes get reeled in with our all-consuming need to believe...
When it comes to beauty treatments, we live in a society that focuses highly on 'fixing' our flaws. Of course, we are of the mindset that no one has flaws, these are part and parcel of our beauty. But that, my dear, is an ideal world scenario.
So when a social media influencer endorsed an oldie but goodie, people flocked to the stores to get the item...
"Youtuber Khethokuhle Ngonyama, popularly known as Kay Yarms, tweeted on January 11 that she had been using the Dawn Body Lotion with Vitamin E/Argan oil for her stretch marks and noticed visible results in just a month." (Business Insider)
I actually wanted to plug you guys with a new product for stretch marks. I’ve only been using it for a month but the difference is so visible! (I’ve been using magnolia tissue oil, it keeps me moisturized but minimal results) this product has really really surprised me! Like 😳

This tweet sent tweeps on a wild goose chase, or in this case it was a wild dawn chase...
"In less than a week, shelves of various giant retailers were left empty as they ran out of the product. Clicks saw more than 500 stores running out." (Business Insider)
Dawn Lotion has long been a trusted brand in South Africa. As a household name, you will always find it on the shelves at all retailers. But in 2019 the brand launched a new range and the 'Repair' one that Kay Yarms speaks of, is part of that new range.

All in all, this just reminded us of the power of social media influence and what it can do for a brand. On the real, it doesn't seem like she has been endorsed by the brand, so she was just talking from her own experience when using the product.
“Some research suggests that argan oil can improve the elasticity of the skin, which may reduce or prevent stretch marks. It can be applied topically or consumed to enhance skin elasticity, according to one study.” (Business Insider)
