Queensburgh Soup Kitchen will be hosting lunch this Christmas
Spreading the love with a warm meal...
Christmas is very much a time where we get into the spirit of celebrating family and also remembering to give. Not everyone has a home or a family to celebrate with, let alone food. So it is important to remind ourselves about being thankful and share what we can with those who are less fortunate.
Kindness doesn't always have to be the biggest gesture, it can be dressed in the small ones too, and that's important to remember during these challenging times. The uncertainty of normalcy should motivate us to share the goodness that we all have in us...
Today, the Queensburgh Soup Kitchen will host a lunch for the underprivileged community. Their aim is to feed 350 people and this will take place at the Queensburgh Rugby Club.
"Elsie Schoeman founded the non-profit organisation in February this year and, prior to her opening the soup kitchen at the Queensburgh Rugby Club, she used to run it from her home." (Highway Mail)
But like anything great in life, it always works when you have support and a team behind you. So Schoeman too has a great team who help her with the feeding scheme.
"Schoeman is supported by four other women, Riette Makkink (fundraiser), Samantha Coetzee (chef) Franscina Du Randt (organiser) and Maropeng Makkink (volunteer). The team feeds 50 children from the Codemore informal settlement, and 125 other members of the Malvern and Queensburgh area, each Wednesday and Sunday." (Highway Mail)
The meal takes place from noon to 4pm.

But this team doesn't just stop there, they also accept clothing donations, which they distribute to the community. In addition to a hot meal, they add in fruit, juice, and a packet of chips for the kids.
In addition, they collect all sorts of plastic containers so that they have feeding bowls. Most of the scheme comes from her pocket and from the support of family and community members, but like any great community initiative, wherever someone can help will be appreciated.
We are hosting a special feeding scheme event, a Christmas lunch, for the community on December 18 and we plan to feed 350 underprivileged people in the Queensburgh community. We want to focus on the children and give them a decent Christmas meal and something extra to make their day memorable.
