One of the many issues to arise from the pandemic has been the interruption when it comes to the production of some of the items we take for granted.

The return of one of South Africa's favourite snacks, Marmite, is very much welcomed. With the lifting of the alcohol ban comes the notorious return of the B.I.G of savoury snacks.
Our yeast supply was constrained with the alcohol ban during lockdown and the production of Bovril (that uses significantly less yeast to produce) was prioritised. Supply has since been restored; however, we are still trying to catchup [sic] on the demand to fill the empty pipeline. In addition to the yeast challenge we experienced a national shortage of one of the other raw materials, which is key to produce these products.- Pioneer Foods Press Release

Having to be without your craving is nothing short of torture. Anyone who has experienced cravings will tell you that. So to hear that things are slowly taking shape, and the Marmite section at grocery retailers is being topped up on the regular, is somewhat comforting...
This was just in time for World Marmite Day, which was celebrated on the 28th of September. Bianca Coleman, from the Daily Maverick, shared some interesting information about this favourite salty, sticky spread...

As much as this is super interesting, her reveal opened up a thought about what actually goes into this snack? Just food for thought for now, because sometimes not knowing is better...
