LISTEN: Tina Turner to sue doppelganger for looking like her
Updated | By East Coast Radio
Who knew that Tina Turner would find her doppelganger?
When it comes to doppelgangers, we have to say that we have seen our fair share of people who certainly fit the profile. Whether they come in the form of being a look-a-like or a voice-a-like, sometimes the resemblance can be uncanny.
Recently, we saw a conflict when it comes to doppelgangers, when Tina Turner revealed that she would be suing her doppelganger, Dorothea "Coco" Fletcher.
Get this, it's alleged that the reason for the suit, is because she looks too much like her!
We guess it's only fair to assume that sometimes people are allowed to own their space. In this case, it obviously makes Tina Turner uncomfortable - rather than flattered - that she has an impersonator who, firstly, closely resembles her and, secondly, is making a career of as her lookalike..
"The 81-year-old pop star is suing German firm COFO Entertainment, which produces the musical tribute show ‘Simply the Best – The Tina Turner Story’, starring her doppelganger, Dorothea "Coco" Fletcher." (News24)
Carol Ofori asked KZN what they thought in terms of Tina Turner suing for such reasons and there was a mixed response. The thing is, Turner has worked hard in her career and to have someone materialising off that career can be damaging to her.
"What Miss Turner dislikes about the whole affair is that she would like to be master of her own right of self-determination,” Kerstin Schmitt, Turner’s lawyer, told the court. “She wants to decide herself when her name and her image can be used for marketing purposes." (News24)
There's nothing wrong with that, after all she has a right to own her authenticity and how her image is being used by others. After all, it is her character, her appearance, her story, and her personal alright...
"The artist’s lawyers have argued that because Coco looks so much like Tina, showgoers could be misled into thinking it actually is her in the show, and promotional posters for the unauthorised tribute show should be withdrawn." (News24)

In case you didn't know, "the lookalike musician scene is a multi-million Euro industry, with fans flocking to see their favourite artists imitated on stage." (News24)
This could definitely be an additional factor to Tina Turner turning the tables on her doppelganger and the money that she is receiving in a world that mimics the star and several other stars, such as, Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and Frank Sinatra.
Tina Turner's performances differ considerably from those of other artists. I have always been fascinated by her incredible energy and stage presence.- Coco Fletcher
