LISTEN: Durbanite Romario Valentine gives back to the birds on his tenth birthday
Romario Valentine, a young boy who works with the United Nations (UN), will dedicate his birthday to helping the birds this year.
Many people celebrate their birthdays by hosting parties or wanting to be treated by their loved ones, but this soon-to-be 10-year-old shakes things up and shows us that celebrating your birthday can be dedicated to a cause that is close to your heart.
For Romario Valentine, his passion is helping the world become a better place. He not only works closely with the United Nations, but he also managed to raise a sum of R30,000 for the birds at the Umgeni Bird Park.

Romario was first featured on East Coast Radio last year when he decided to raise funds for the Umgeni Bird Park due to the devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
This year, he has decided to dedicate his fundraising efforts towards a Plettenberg Bay, Western Cape facility, Birds of Eden, that houses African Grey Parrots. He will be assisting in creating a 30m x 30m aviary for abandoned African Greys.

"Since then, his passion for conservation has exponentially grown after he became Ocean Sole's youngest ambassador and cleaned local beaches over 160 times," News24 reports.
With little heroes such as Romario doing big things to make our world a better place, we can't help but put a smile on our faces, feeling hopeful for a brighter and kinder, more sustainable future.
I am passionate about nature and believe it is my mission to protect the environment and biodiversity. Trees give us oxygen, food and shelter which are important for our survival. You are never too young to help nature. I would like to encourage children to plant trees, to not litter, recycle and reuse.
