It's World Chocolate Day: Carol Ofori shares her favourite chocolates with KZN
Updated | By East Coast Radio
Today we honour World Chocolate Day!
World Chocolate Day - some might say, "Like really?" But we are all for having a day to celebrate our favourite confectionary. Whether it is in cake, covering marshmallows or nuts, bitter or sweet, crunchy or melted, we just love our chocolate...
We love days like these, days that allow us to celebrate the lighter side of life. That side of life that allows us to share our secret and not-so-secret pleasures of life. Chocolate has got to be the one thing that majority of us can connect with. It is the go-to when you are happy and even when you are sad, and its history is quite interesting.
"In order to craft a bar of chocolate, seeds from a cacao tree are covered with banana leaves and left to ferment, at which point they are called cocoa beans. Once the cocoa beans have arrived at their processing plant, they are roasted slowly at a low temperature. Then it’s time to separate the shells from the nibs so that the nibs can be ground to a fine powder called cocoa liquor," National Today reports.
On that note, Carol Ofori wanted to share her favourites with you. Perhaps it will motivate you to treat yourself to a special chocolate treat today?
Cadbury slabs, Whole Nut, Rum and Raisin, Top Deck, Sweetie Pie, Bubbles... these are just some of the top choices for Carol and we can't say that we aren't feeling a craving for a chocolate run coming over us. What are your favourites?
We recently noticed that Cadbury Dairy Milk has committed itself to sourcing 100% sustainably sourced cocoa. By 2051, it's said that cocoa farming could reduce considerably. That is why they are committed to being sustainable when it comes to cocoa farming, so when eating that chocolate bar, at least you know that you are supporting a sustainable establishment.
