CRIME: Stay alert whilst taking out your trash!
Updated | By East Coast Radio
This is definitely worth taking some time to read, as crime is certainly a harsh reality...
Unfortunately, crime is something that doesn't choose when to come around. It occurs throughout the year and has a way of knocking us off our feet at times.
But that doesn't mean that we have to be paralysed by its efforts.
As we approach the festive season, criminals are on high alert as there are many people whose guards are down.
All the more reason we need to stay alert and also proactive when we approach our day-to-day activities.
Fidelity ADT, a security response company, recently warned customers about a refuse removal crime trend.
They have urged customers to be mindful of what they are throwing away and how they are disposing of these items.
"We have received information of break-ins that have occurred within a day of bins and refuse being placed outside for collection. Unfortunately not all rubbish bag diggers are innocent as they might appear. Would-be thieves may rummage through rubbish to gain information about households before planning a break-in." (Fidelity ADT)

One of their handy safety tips to residents taking out their trash is to not leave empty boxes with their refuse.
Empty boxes of large purchases, such as TVs, Home Theatre systems, computers, and the like are dead giveaways to criminals who are planning on breaking in.
Essentially, what may seem to you as disposing of trash, can be a tell tale sign for criminals watching your every move.

Additional information from the security team says that residents should be wary when disposing of their medication containers.
"Suspects also look for medication containers and boxes, particularly sleeping medication packaging. Residents are urged to remove labels and information displayed on medicine containers before discarding them." (Fidelity ADT)
Crime is always going to be around, so the best thing to do is to be aware and alert. Sometimes we take things for granted, so rather be conscious to what is happening around you and not be a victim but rather a victor.
