When you think about the value of money these days, it can be said that now more than ever many people are feeling the cost of living.

Where we used to wonder how mothers and fathers stretched their Rand to put food on the table and get their children through school, now we are left even more baffled. But with the rising tough times, there is always a way...

In this instance, it's Shoprite's R5 campaign, which was launched in 2016 and is still managing to run strong with its prices. The aim of the campaign "is to bring dignity and comfort to those who are in need by ensuring that they can afford to eat and have basic necessities." (Business Insider)

One of the products that has managed to remain at a consistent price of R4.99 is the 600g in-house baked bread. This sounds like such a relief to people that are barely making ends meet.

"The retailer has over the years sold more than 266 million loaves of bread nationwide, and inflation has not affected the price." (Business Insider)

The deli meals, which were launched in 2017, have allowed for customers to be able to feed themselves nutritious meals for R5.00. Their Shoprite Ritebrand soup for R5.00 has also managed to help with the Lunchbox Fund, helping with more than 900,000 meals.

And it seems the saying, 'you reap what you sow', is certainly true for this brand, considering it was revealed on Monday that they have achieved top results with their sales increases and managing to win at their market share, despite inflation and the July unrest.

We love that the R5 campaign has also extended its range to sanitary pads, a necessity that many females go without.
