Carol Ofori weighs in on Chrissy Teigen "normalising formula feeding"
Updated | By East Coast Radio
Mom shaming is a very real issue and it's not always as simple as a stranger making some rude comment, sometimes it's an internal struggle.
Being a mom is a blessing.
It is also one of the toughest jobs in the world.

That's why mothers should be supporting each other and sticking together, rather than tearing each other down.
These are the only other people who will completely understand what you are going through as a mother.

Yet mom-shaming is a common phenomenon with mothers judging each other for the way they raise their kids, the way they dress their kids but most commonly: how they feed their children.
Breastfeeding vs. formula feeding has been a long-standing debate.

Many have spoken up about their struggles and opinions about both and now Chrissy Teigen has thrown in her two cents with a lengthy Twitter thread.
normalize breastfeeding is such a huge, wonderful thing. but I absolutely felt way more shame having to use formula because of lack of milk from depression and whatnot.

"normalize breastfeeding" is great. "normalize formula" is great, too! so yeah. that's all! normalize formula! your baby is gonna be BEAUTIFUL, PERFECT, AND OKAY.

the stress of it, combined with the guilt that you cannot do nature's most natural thing for your own baby is too much. I dunno why this is my crusade now. I just remember the sadness I felt and want you to know you are doing it right if your baby is fed, mama.

I tried to breastfeed my daughter last year.. she gained 7 oz in her first month of life & had failure to thrive! The difference switching to formula made for my sweet baby was amazing in just 1 month! She turned 1 on October 1st & is in the 99th percentile in height & weight!❤️ pic.twitter.com/ud67FZccdb

I breast feed, and pumped at my paralegal job (in the server room because I didn’t have an office at the time) and it was so clear to me that for many women formula is literally freedom. Freedom to work, freedom to have a night with friends, freedom to take meds if you need...

One nurse also had the best response to anyone who wanted to pass judgement on formula-feeding mothers.
As an OB nurse, I can tell you, fed is best. Want to breastfeed? Awesome! Want to formula feed? Awesome! A little of both? Awesome! As long as you're not feeding your baby Mt. Dew, you are winning.

And don't forget about the dads!
People who are obsessed with breast milk are from another world. They will never understand that not all women can produce or produce enough. Not everyone is the same.
