What do you think was the most surprising reveal in Carol Ofori's report?
As we approached the topic of Heritage this past September, Carol Ofori expressed her interest in finding out her heritage. Of course, it is important to know where you come from, it adds to your identity and everyone should be able to connect with their heritage.
So when she expressed her desire to undergo a DNA test that was able to pinpoint her ancestry, as a team we were all in. We were excited to see what our blood lines were made of, because of course as South Africans, we bring such a high level of diversity.
Carol Ofori did the swab from a company called Be Happy To Be You. Once the results came back, Carol touched base with Dr. Lindsay Petersen to get some feedback on how they come to the results.
She shared some key insights into the process involved in getting your blood line information. Sharing that Carol came from a colourful background, including her 11.96 Ashkenazi Jew was surprising to Dr Petersen.
But not for Carol, she shared that her great grandfather was from Poland and came to Africa during the war. So she was expecting this, but what shocked her was that she was 27% West African...
