#BadMomsClub: "I've found a way to keep track of everything my daughter does on her phone"
Updated | By East Coast Radio
A mom contacted the Bad Moms Club for some advice on cloning her teenage daughter's phone and asks KZN for help...
A teenager went onto TikTok to express his feelings after finding a phone in his mother's room, which had access to all his social media accounts, photos, online purchases, texts, and even his call history.
He said: "I’m really upset over this actually. I literally have nothing to hide and have never done anything to lose her trust, yet she does this." @fagforbuckybarnes (Daily Dot)
Comments on the video revolved around the mother's actions as being 'Helicopter Parenting'. This type of parenting involves behaviour that some may consider invasive and disrespectful of a child's boundaries.
With smartphone applications such as mSpy and TeenSafe, it is possible for parents to facilitate intense monitoring that could be seen in this particular case. (Daily Dot)
The teenager's account cannot be found on TikTok, which could mean that these tracking devices could have led to him losing all access to his phone privileges from his mom. We're not sure, but Carol Ofori has been faced with a similar situation with a mom from Westville, who opted to remain anonymous.
"Hey Bad Moms Club,
I need you to be honest with me, please. I’m a single mom with a 15-year-old daughter and I’ve found a way to keep track of everything she does on her phone. So, every time my daughter does anything on her phone, I get a notification. I can read all her messages and even her social media accounts are available to me. My daughter has no idea I’ve done this. I feel terrible for invading her privacy, but on the other hand, I’d feel worse if something happened to her that I could’ve prevented. I’ve read horror stories! Advice please, bad mom’s club! Has anyone else done this?"
Carol Ofori shares her own experience, saying that her mother would have done the same thing if she had the resources when she was young.
Carol said that she would advise this mother to be open with her daughter and explain the reason behind her actions. The world is a scary place or at least it can be and this is the reason that she did what she did.
