#AppreciationMonday: Toys R Us & LEARN Project launch sensory library in Newlands East

A beautiful project that will encourage kids to broaden their imagination with reading...
Opening the door to imagination doesn't work in the same way for every child.
But one of the ways that has traditionally been known to encourage an active and vivid imagination is reading.
One of things that helps younger kids develop their interaction with books, as well as an overall learning experience, is sensory play.
We are so happy and grateful to hear about the launch of a sensory library in Newlands East.
The feel-good news for South Africa was announced two weeks ago as Toys R Us partnered with The LEARN Project to launch a new sensory library in the Newlands East township in KwaZulu-Natal.
The Bright Future Sensory Library has officially opened to the community of Newlands East. It holds over a thousand books as well as educational resources and provides an interactive library experience with the aim of awakening the imagination and bringing stories to life to the children who visit.
It’s not just any library: The Library is a room filled with wonder, joy, and knowledge with the purpose of encouraging learning through experience.
The wide variety of books contained in the new library include touch and feel tactile books, auditory, light, sound, pop-up, and number books and interactive story boxes with visual story aids that bring stories to life.

But there's more.
The library also includes an interactive puppet theatre and fantasy play dress-up area, a day and night reading area to read and experience interactive night books, star gazers and projectors, all contained in safe and comfortable spaces for learners to relax and read a book with cushions, weighted blankets, and textured rugs.
It sounds like an out-of-this-world experience. We hope this ignites a sense of love for reading, in both kids and parents.
It's also a reminder to us that you're never too old to learn and build on your imagination.
