#AppreciationMonday: 80-year-old KZN pensioner raises R340k for cerebral palsy patients

This week we were lucky enough to share appreciation for two people who are doing and have done great things. We dedicated our earlier appreciation Monday post to Principal Rishichand Sookai Budhal, from Rose Heights Primary School.
And this post is dedicated to 80-year-old Ian Davies, who is a pensioner doing great things. He started a fundraiser for two KZN-based organisations and has since raised R340,000. He happens to be the chairperson for each of these organisations and his spirit is absolutely inspiring.
"In the run up to the fundraiser, the 80-year-old raised R190 000 for Clouds of Hope and R150 000 for Pevensey Place. Pevensey Place is a farm home for 75 cerebral palsied adults near Underberg in KwaZulu-Natal. Clouds of Hope Children’s Christian Care Centre is a home for 69 abandoned and abused children and teenagers." (News24)
Ian Davies was accompanied by 39 other hikers to climb up the Rhino Peak mountain in Southern Drakensberg. This was both a celebration of his 80th birthday and was also part of the fundraising.
Due to the pandemic, the organisations have been hit badly. They rely on the sporting events that would also double up as fundraising events for them.
But this inspiring man hasn't let his age, nor the pandemic, affect his goal of raising money for these two important organisations. He said that he was inspired by Rodreck Nyathi, who walked for 100 kilometers in celebration of his 50th birthday to raise funds for Pevensey Place.
He said that there is still a long way to go in terms of raising funds.
What a man! We wanted to dedicate this post to him and his efforts in doing good.
