It's definitely no small feat being recognised for your designs on a platform that births trends. So to see a South African designer's clothes being featured on the fifth and last season of 'Insecure', which is a popular HBO series, is quite an honour.

We are proudly South African, so when it comes to recognising the efforts of our talented designers, it can be said that we feel excited for them and the leaps in their international careers.

Thebe Magugu has many accolades behind his name, but to be featured on a show that shares the story of two friends facing the challenges of being black women who defy all stereotypes, is truly sentimental.

He posted to his Twitter page sharing the news of Issa Rae wearing his Petrol Green Jacket along with its skirt from Magugu's AW20 collection shown at Paris Fashion Week. (Business Insider)

The mere fact that the jacket has a personal attachment to our country makes this somewhat more of an honour. "The back lining of the designer jacket has the South African Constitution printed on it and can be seen through an intentional tear." (Business Insider)

Of course we love that his fanbase came through with such positive commentary, and this is certainly one great way of knowing who your fans are, when they are able to bring receipts on the fact that this isn't the first time that Issa Rae has worn Magugu's designs.

There's no doubt that in order for us to reach our big goals, we have to celebrate all our wins, it is certainly a motivator in achieving success. Magugu is well-known in South Africa and is a true epitome of what it means to persevere.

"In 2019, Magugu, who's clearly been doing a good job at flying the South African flag, became the overall winner of the LVMH Prize for Young Fashion Designers at an event in Paris. This made him the first African designer to receive the accolade." (Business Insider)

Here's to amazing fashion and to Issa Rae appreciating South African authenticity from Thebe Magugu...
