ECR listeners raise over R100 000 for student bursaries on Mandela Day

An East Coast Radio
broadcast on Mandela Day has raised R106 280 as part of the UKZN
Foundation’s R67 for Mandela Day campaign.
East Coast Radio teamed up with UKZN to mobilise the people of the KwaZulu-Natal to donate as little as R67 on Mandela Day this year, to assist underfunded students to complete their studies.
Executive Director of the University of KwaZulu-Natal Foundation, Professor Anesh Maniraj Singh said, “In total the campaign raised R366 000, which exceeded our original target of R250 000. The listeners of ECR gave generously which exceeded the target that I had hoped they would raise. I am extremely pleased with the total amount raised, especially since this was our first event of this nature.”
At a handover ceremony to the bursary recipients today East Coast Radio’s General Manager, Boni Mchunu said, “We are delighted to have galvanised the people of KwaZulu-Natal to give generously. Our listeners once again stepped up and displayed the true giving spirit of the people and businesses of this province.”
Singh said this is just the beginning for the campaign and that as the brand grows they are hoping to be able to assist more learners.
