Garcia and Leishman have both started with rounds of 66 at Augusta.
Trevor Immelman is the best of the South African golfers.
Immelman, who won the Masters in 2008, is two shots off the pace.
He carded a 68 on Thursday.
Tim Clark signed for a first round 70.
He trails by four strokes at Augusta.
Also four shots off the lead are both Tiger Woods and Lee Westwood.
Ernie Els, Charl Schwartzel and Phil Mickelson are all five strokes adrift.
They started with rounds of 71.
Rory McIlroy is even after his first round 72.
Richard Sterne carded a 73 yesterday, while Louis Oosthuizen had to settle for a 74.
He trails by eight shots.
George Coetzee struggled to a 75.
Branden Grace found the going even tougher.
Grace carded a 78.
Ian Woosnam needed 80 shots to complete his opening round at Augusta yesterday.
Guan Tianlang, a 14-year-old golfer from China, started his campaign with a 73.
Guan is the youngest player ever to feature at the Masters.
