Three changes for Sharks ahead of Cardiff clash
Updated | By Nick Tatham
Following their first
win of the Vodacom United Rugby Championship last week, the Cell C Sharks head
into their final match of their tour against the Cardiff Blues with a changed
side.
Unfortunately for the Sharks they will be without wings Thaakir Abrahams and Yaw Penxe who have both returned home due to injury while Sanele Nohamba has returned to South Africa due to a family bereavement.
The Sharks have been able to rotate their squad freely throughout their opening three matches in the competition and have done that again with a number of changes to the side that beat Ospreys last Friday.
Everitt has gone with an entirely new loose trio; Phepsi Buthelezi returns at number eight while Henco Venter and Dylan Richardson start on the flanks.
The other change sees Anthony Volmink move to wing in place of the injured Abrahams with Curwin Bosch coming in at fullback while Murray Koster will start at inside centre in place of Marius Louw.
Wiehahn Herbst comes onto the bench along with Tian Meyer while Gebrandt Grobler and James Venter also start on the bench.
"For team morale we wanted to give as many guys an opportunity without weakening the team and the guys that come in are certainly motivated to do well," Everitt said.
"We have tried as much as possible to pick our best team this week without rotating.
"You've got to get the balance right when giving guys an opportunity and I'm quite comfortable giving the guys the opportunities that we have because we know that they can cope at this level.
"We've got the get the balance right with the big focus in the Northern Hemisphere being on set piece."
The Sharks and Cardiff both sit on one win from their three matches in the competition however the Welsh side have picked up two bonus points to sit two points ahead of the Sharks on the log.
Kick off at Cardiff Arms Park is at 20:35.
