Simbine peaking ahead of Tokyo Games
South African sprint ace Akani Simbine is hitting his best
form at the right time heading into the sprint events at the Olympic Games
later this month.
Simbine showed his form when he beat the South African and African 100m record's at at the Gyulai Istvan Memorial World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meet recently putting him in line as one of the favourites for the 100m title at the Tokyo Games.
The win was a convincing one for the sprint star as American Michael Rogers finished in second stopping the clock on 10 secons flat.
The 27-year-old took five hundredths off his previous personal best on the same track from 2016, and broke Olusoji Fasuba’s previous continental mark of 9.85 set in Qatar in 2006.
Simbine will begin his Olympic's with round one of the men's 100m on 31 July with the final of the 100m on Sunday, 1 August.
His 200m campaign will begin a few days later with the heats starting on Tuesday.
