Proteas wary of ‘transitional’ England
Updated | By Nick Tatham
The tweaked Proteas under care-taker captain Dave Miller
face England in a three-match T20 series starting on Wednesday but the captain
doesn’t believe that England will be any less dangerous without retired captain
Eoin Morgan.
Amongst many in the UK, the white ball team is in a transitional stage with Jos Buttler taking over the leadership. When asked about if he thought this was true, Miller said that they have enough experience to continue the legacy that Morgan began.
“They have come a long way in the last few years, and they are a formidable team,” Miller said.
“Jos has played a lot under Eion Morgan and has a lot of experience and has travelled around the world playing T20 cricket and done extremely well on the international circuit so they a serious team.
“To counter that we have a serious team as well, so I think it’s going to be a good series.”

The Proteas and England drew the recent ODI series 1-all and
rain had the final say in the third match. Miller believes that the side are
taking some strong momentum from the 50 over series into the T20 series.
“Obviously the second ODI was one to forget for us, but we have played some good cricket over the last couple of months.
“In the first game (of the ODI series) we did really well and were in a good position in the final match, so momentum is definitely there, and confidence is high.
“The guys are enjoying travelling around the UK, it’s a great place to tour, so there is a lot to look forward to.”
With the T20 World Cup at the end of the year the Proteas are hoping that they can build some good form going into the showpiece.
“For us these games are really important going into a World Cup mainly just so we can continue the momentum that we have had over the last eighteen months.
“We are taking this series very seriously and want to continue that momentum,” Miller added.
The first T20 of the series gets underway at 7:30pm (SAT) in Bristol.
