Oosthuizen swapping Sharks for Sharks
Updated | By Nick Tatham
The Cell C Sharks have bolstered their front-row further by
announcing the re-signing of prop Coenie Oosthuizen from the Sale Sharks in England.
After leaving Hollywoodbets Kings Park four years ago, Oosthuizen will call Durban home once again from the start of the news season as the Sharks look to advance further in both the Vodacom United Rugby Championship and the Heineken Challenge Cup next season.
The 34-year-old was a crucial member of the Sale Sharks side that qualified for the Gallagher Premiership final this season despite losing to Saracens at Twickenham this past weekend.
Speaking in a statement on the Sale Sharks website, Sale coach Alex Sanderson is happy that they had a player like Oosthuizen at the club.
“Since he arrived in Manchester, Coenie has been a massive part of this team and this club and everyone is going to miss him," Sanderson said.
“On the field he’s a fantastic player but off it, he’s been a real leader for us in what is a young squad.”
The return of Oosthuizen is going to be an important addition for the Sharks will have lost Thomas du Toit and Khuta Mchunu while they will also welcome another Springbok in Vincent Koch for the new season.
Next season the Sharks will be competing in the Heineken Challenge Cup after they were bumped out of the top eight in the URC with the leading Welsh side claiming the final spot in the Champions Cup.
The Cell C Sharks continue their Currie Cup campaign this Saturday with a clash with the Lions at Hollywoodbets Kings Park hoping to secure a home semi-final in the competition.
