Mosimane bids farewell to Sundowns
Updated | By Nick Tatham
Following another
season that ended in a Premiership title, Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso
Mosimane has called time on his role at the helm of Masandawana to take up a role
with an overseas team with speculation rife as to who it might be.
It’s been nearly eight years that Mosimane has led the Brazillians where they won every title that they could including an impressive CAF Champions League title under Mosimane. It seems to have got to the stage where he has nothing left to prove.
“It is with a sense of pain and sadness that I announce my departure from Mamelodi Sundowns Football Club,” Mosimane said in a statement on Wednesday.
“After winning five league titles with Mamelodi Sundowns – the 10th for the club – how can a man ever find it easy to say goodbye to his home?
“From the deepest of my heart, I am grateful that the President (Patrice Motsepe) has blessed my move.”
The rumours of his next venture have started in earnest with African giants Al Ahly and Wydad Casablanca both being linked with the mentor.
He didn’t give anything away but mentioned that his next move is going to push
him out of his comfort zone. Whoever snaps him up will need to buy him out of
his four year contract that he still has with Mamelodi Sundowns.
It's thought that the Egyptian giants Al Ahly are the front-runners to secure Mosimane's services.
Given the departure of their manager, Sundowns are going to have to make a decision quickly as to who succeeds Mosimane.
This is due to the new season starting on 17 October. The announcement came on Wednesday when Dr. Irvin Khoza announced that the new PSL season will start with the MTN 8 while the DSTV Premiership will kick-off on 24 October.
