Lampard sacked by Chelsea
Chelsea have confirmed that manager Frank Lampard has been fired following a string of poor results that has left the Blues in ninth on the Premier League table.
The former Chelsea legend has battled to put his stamp on the London-based club throughout his tenure at the helm and this has meant that the pressure has mounted over the last few months.
Lampard was given a massive cash injection to bring in players that were going to push the Blues back into title contention, however his signings haven't quite caught on so far with German star Timo Werner battling to fit into the English game.
Chelsea currently sit eleven points off the pace set by Manchester United at the moment which seems to have been the final straw for owner Roman Abramovich.
The club's Russian owner has historically been a tough taskmaster when it comes to managers and during Lampard's playing days at Stamford Bridge he had nine different coaches.
With five league losses in their last eight games Abramovich felt it was time to pull the plug, regrettably.
“This was a very difficult decision for the Club, not least because I have an excellent personal relationship with Frank and I have the utmost respect for him," Abramovich said in a statement on the club's website.
“He is a man of great integrity and has the highest of work ethics. However, under current circumstances we believe it is best to change managers.
“On behalf of everyone at the Club, the Board and personally, I would like to thank Frank for his work as Head Coach and wish him every success in the future. He is an important icon of this great club and his status here remains undiminished. He will always be warmly welcomed back at Stamford Bridge.”
The rumour mill has been in full force and reports worldwide have suggested that former Paris Saint-Germain manager Thomas Tuchel will take over at the Bridge.
Tuchel recently won back-to-back French league titles but was let go by the club. He also guided the Parians to a Champions League final last season.
