The Proteas will face Bangladesh in an important Betway One
Day International Series this month hoping to move up the ICC Cricket World Cup
Super League table.
The Proteas currently sit in tenth spot on the Super League table and face the side that sit top of the log in their upcoming series. This series will be important for the side as they look to gain automatic qualification for the next ICC World Cup.
The squad selected has only seen one omission with Sisanda Magala missing out due to a failed fitness test while speedster Anrich Nortje is unavailable for selection due to his recovery from a hip injury.
Beside for those two players the team remains unchanged from the squad that played against India and importantly for the team these three ODI's will offer selectors a chance to see what their best 50 over eleven looks like heading towards the next 50 over World Cup in India next year.
“The National Selection Panel and I are looking forward to another exciting ODI series at home. With ICC World Cup qualification points in the balance, it was vital for us not to tinker with a winning combination," convenor of selectors Victor Mpitsang said.
“After a great performance against a very strong Indian side, we felt it was important to reward the good performances of the previous series and to continue to back this growing team.
“Consistency in selection and performance are just some of the key elements that need to be looked after, especially when building up to a World Cup, and we are looking forward to seeing what this Temba Bavuma-led group will produce against fresh opposition in the coming weeks.
"On behalf of the Panel, I would like to wish him and coach Mark Boucher, all the best for the series.”
