Audi R8 for World-record holder Van Niekerk
Updated | By Gareth Jenkinson
South African sprinter Wayde van Niekerk now has a set of wheels to match his world record 400m time.
The 24-year-old finally arrived back in South Africa for the first time since he won the gold medal in the 400m final of the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.
Alongside 100m specialist Akani Simbine, the pair were greeted by thousands of fans at the OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg on Wednesday morning.
While the fanfare alone would have been an amazing home-coming, Van Niekerk was presented a brand new Audi R8 V10 sports car courtesy of the German car manufacturers - after they made him an official brand ambassador.
