Umlazi matric 'beaten' by fellow pupils unable to finish exams
Updated | By Sandile Bhengu
A vicious attack has derailed a Durban matric girl's final exams.
Authorities say the 19-year-old Umlazi pupil was accused of stealing a phone by some of her classmates last week.
It's understood they took her to J-Section and where they assaulted her and also threatened her with a firearm.
Police say some of the girl's attackers, aged between 17 and 24, were arrested and appeared in court on Monday.
One other suspect is said to still be at large.

KZN Education's Muzi Mahlambi says the pupil was beaten after writing her Zulu exam.
She's not able to finish writing the rest of her papers due to her injuries.
"We have arranged that she would write next year when others are writing supplementary (exams), but it is very unfortunate that this delayed her in terms of going to university together with her cohort.
"On our side, if she was fit to write exams, she was going to do so, but it is her medical condition that warrants that she writes next year."
