Teen’s death leaves Newlands East residents in shock
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The community of Newlands East in the north of Durban has been shocked by the gruesome discovery of a teenage girl's body in a dense bush.
According to KZN SAPS, the 15-year-old was found dead with stab wounds on Dorado Crescent on Tuesday morning.
Events leading to the murder and the motive are being investigated.
Local ward councillor Allan Petersen says he rushed to the scene after hearing the news.
He says they have had complaints of criminal elements happening close to where the girl's body was discovered.
"What came to my attention, being a councillor in just the last month, is we've seen that the place is quite dense in that road with no street lights and it's bushy. The municipality obviously needs to do something so we see more visibility in our community because I've raised this concern already. If that area was more visible, maybe someone could have seen something.”
