Sardines arrive in Durban, netted at Toti beach
Swimming at some eThekwini beaches has been banned for a few days - with shark safety gear lifted to make way for the sardine run.
Nets have been removed between Ansteys beach on the Bluff and Umgababa - south of Amanzimtoti.
The KZN Sharks Board's Greg Thompson says the silver fish were spotted and netted at Toti yesterday.
"There's been quite a lot of action in the Toti area. There has been confirmed sardine netting between Toti main beach and the Pipeline beach," Thompson said.

He says there were at least 1500 crates filled.
Meanwhile, the Toti main beach was a hive of activity yesterday - as people made their way to seaside town to witness some of the first nets of the 2019 sardine run being pulled from the water.
The beach's car parks were full to capacity - with some motorists having to park along the verges before heading onto the sand.

On the beach, people watched as netters pulled in their catch and filled their crates.
