The electricity minister
says the demand for power has decreased as Spring draws near.
Kgosientsho Ramokgopa says this has, in turn, led to a significant improvement in generation capacity.
Updating the nation on the Energy Action Plan in Pretoria on Sunday, he said during this time maintenance on electrical infrastructure, including power stations, will be carried out.
Generating units will also be repaired.
“There's a considerable improvement on the generation side,” Ramokgopa said.

“The capacity available now, we can see that we are beginning to normalise available capacity to be upwards of 29 000 megawatts, so in some instances very close to that."
Ramakgopa said he hopes this helps reduce the intensity of load shedding.
When probed about the vacant CEO position at Eskom, he said Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan is handling the matter.
“I really do respect the work of the board of Eskom. Mr Makwana will make that determination and Minister Gordhan will make the appropriate confirmation because he is a shareholder representing and I'm confident he's working on that."
