PPE corruption: Presidency confirms receipt of SIU report

The Presidency has confirmed that it has received the Special Investigating Unit's final report into PPE corruption.
The unit launched an investigation into allegations of corruption by parties in the public and private sector in the procurement of personal protective equipment at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a statement, the Presidency confirmed that it is studying the report.
Earlier this week, the unit said it was investigating PPE contracts to the value of R14,8 billion from a total of R138,8 billion of total government PPE expenditure.
Unit head, Andy Mothibi briefed SCOPA and said the number of PPE contracts awarded under investigation are over 5 000.
