No stage 8 load shedding on horizon, says Eskom COO
Updated | By Sandile Bhengu
Outgoing operations head Jan Oberholzer says around 43% of Eskom's electricity generation system is offline.
Load shedding will move up from stage 3 to stage 4 later on Monday afternoon after two more generating units were shut down on Sunday evening.
Oberholzer says they're in an unpredictable situation.
He briefed the media on Sunday on the challenges affecting Eskom.
He said while there's a large portion of electricity generation offline due to breakdowns and maintenance - stage 8 load shedding isn't expected at this point.
"Stage 8 is not anticipated and I want to confirm that. To be implemented but will allow for an orderly reduction in electricity demand should unforeseen events occur.
“Now, although the stage of load shedding have been high for extended periods this does not indicate that the power system is approaching a blackout."
