Minimum wage public hearings get underway tomorrow
South Africans will from tomorrow be able to have their say, as public hearings get underway on the National Minimum Wage Bill.
The NCOP's Economic and Business Development Committee is driving this phase.
The bill proposes that workers earn a minimum of R20 per hour or R3,500 a month, for a 40 hour week.
Members of the public can either email written comments or be available for oral presentations before the provincial assembly.
These will be considered tomorrow.
Chairperson of the committee, Mandla Rayi says they will then deliberate on both feedback from the public and the Labour Department.

"Once we receive their submissions, we will consider them and then we will vote on each one of the clauses of the bill. We will then make a report and adopt the report as a committee and send it to the plenary of the National Council of Provinces," he said.
