Mhlathuze, Umgeni Water to merge
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Mhlathuze Water will be merged with Umgeni Water at the end of the week.

The soon-to-be dissolved former entity was established in the 1980s, and operated in the uMkhanyakude, King Cetshwayo and Zululand District municipalities.
The Department of Water and Sanitation says all of Mhlathuze Water's staff, assets and liabilities will be transferred to Umgeni.

Spokesperson Andile Tshona says the single entity will be known as Umgeni-uThukela Water.
"The establishment of a single entity is meant to increase water access to un-serviced areas, reduce skewed water supply, enhance market capitalisation for infrastructure projects and address transformation challenges in the water sector."
An advert has been published to get public nominations for members to serve on the new board for four years.
