Man feared drowned after being washed off Durban pier

A search and rescue operation is underway at Virginia Beach in Durban North - where a man is missing and presumed to have drowned.

Emergency services say medics and a police search and rescue crew responded to the pier in the early hours of this morning.

"When emergency services arrived on scene, there was no sign of the man. The Police Search and Rescue officials launched a search at first light this morning. Reports from the scene were that the man was still missing. The exact consensus as to how the man got washed off the pier, are not known at this stage," he said.
Three men have drowned at Virginia Beach in two separate incidents in the past month.
Two fishermen drowned in the latest incident there on Sunday.
