LISTEN: MUT students call for improved security
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The safety of students needs to be prioritised. Mangosuthu University of Technology students have made the call after learning that the gunman who shot dead 21-year-old Zolile Khumalo this week walked into the off-campus residence in the city centre with another registered student.
The SRC's Sandile Dlamini says students need the same level of security that is in place on campus.
23-year-old Thabani Mzolo is accused of shooting Eshowe-born Khumalo in her room on Tuesday.

Mzolo then allegedly posted about the incident on Facebook.
He appeared in the Durban Magistrate's Court yesterday.
The former student angered many at the courthouse when he laughed and smiled in the dock.
Students who packed into the courtroom also became enraged when Mzolo made a gesture with his hands that many believe was a 'trigger' sign.
Mzolo made the gesture before disappearing back into the holding cells after his brief court appearance.
