Transport Minister Blade Nzimande says, "the single largest group of casualties, it's people between the ages of 25 and 34."

Aside from drinking and driving, Nzimande says the use of social media behind the wheel has become a major problem.

Nzimande delivered the department's mid-festive season preliminary road safety report in Gauteng yesterday saying a total of 767 fatalities have been recorded so far.

"The highest percentage increase was recorded in the Northern Cape. It was 71%, followed by the Free State with 53% and KwaZulu-Natal with 46%."
