KwaDukuza NPO tackles local poverty
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
A youth-led non-profit organisation has taken on the challenge to respond to the plight of destitute families in KwaDukuza.
This week the Siyasizana KwaDukuza Network alongside the KZN Department of Social Development was able to assist 42 child-headed households and elderly people with food and clothing.
The NPO's Nomvuselelo Hlela says most locals from Mhlongo Village, Hangus, and eGqumeni are mostly affected by the COVID-19 lockdown.

She says they knew as young people that they couldn't just fold their arms while many in the area suffered.
"We saw the need because some of the people in the area are so disadvantaged. Since the hard times of the lockdown, some of them lost their jobs, and some of them are not working at all.
"As much are everyone doesn't have much because of the lockdown - which hit everyone hard - we just decided let us do it anyway, let's have faith."
