Girl (8) escapes fatal drowning at Westbrook Beach
Updated | By Steve Bhengu
An 8 year old girl is fortunate to be alive after she was swept off the rocks by a large wave at Westbrook Beach, north of Durban this morning.
It's said she'd been standing among large rocks when a huge wave knocked her over, washing her into the choppy surf.
EThekwini lifeguards quick response saw them dive into action upon noticing the child in distress.
Netcare 911's Shawn Herbst says once she was pulled to shore the little girl was then medically assessed.
"She was pulled to shore where lifeguards and was assessed by Netcare 911 paramedics", he said.
"Once they had stabilized her they transported her to hospital for symptoms of a non-fatal drowning", Herbs said.
