Family supports King Misuzulu after being named successor to the Zulu throne

"That's why it was actually convened by the matriarch of the family, now during this meeting, princess Thembe and and Princess Mbonisi pledged their loyalty and support for his majesty King Misuzulu kaZwelithini. The family appreciates this indication - stability and unity has been restored," says Traditional Prime Minister to the Zulu Nation, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi who was speaking in Nongomaon Saturday.

The incoming monarch was nominated as the preferred successor by his mother, Queen Mantfombi Dlamini-Zulu.

Drama unfolded at a public reading of the late regent's last will and testament on Friday night, hours after her funeral.

Misuzulu had to be whisked away amid heavy security.

Buthelezi says King Misuzulu has already ascended the throne.

"From our side, as a family, as far as the Zulu nation is concerned, the king is already on his throne, but of cause, there are formalities to follow from the side of government.  

Prince Buthelezi says they weren't surprised by the chaos that erupted after the King's nomination was announced.

"Each time a new king is installed - there are always others who want to claim the throne so if there is such a development, it's not something that will surprise us at all.  

Buthelezi says anyone who wants to contest the will of the late queen is free to do so.

"If they want to taker the matter to court, they are quite free. I was not born yesterday, I can say to the media now that I heard rumours that some of them were looking for legal advice a couple of days ago."
