Durban man scoops gold at world weightlifting contest

A Woodlands weightlifter has earned gold from the Arnold Classic weightlifting competition.
Martin Venter competed in the 102-kilogram division for youth this past weekend.
The tournament, held at the Sandton Convention Centre, celebrated multiple sporting codes.
Venter says the win will help him achieve more success.
"It was very exciting - I didn't really expect it. KZN Champs are coming up in the next couple of months and we will be going to that. Hopefully, we will snag another one."
Venter says he was motivated by his training partner Nikki Allorto - who is also a record holder - to compete.
Preparing for the contest, Venter followed an eating plan and an intense training programme.

He's been involved in the sport for three years.
"The sport has since grown to be accommodated in gyms and clubs. We have just established our first youth development weightlifting club, Inkunzi Weightlifting at Voortrekker High School in Pietermaritzburg," Venter adds.
