City provides 20 more water tankers to relieve Durban's water shortage
In response to severe water cuts felt in parts of Durban, eThekwini Municipality says they will add 20 more tankers to service the affected areas.
Areas including Shallcross, Harinager,
Chatsworth, Klaarwater and Birch Road were hardest hit - when several pumps at
the Northdene Pump Station failed, resulting in no water being pumped to all
downstream reservoirs.
Residents have been without water since this weekend.
The City has pleaded with residents to bear with them as they work towards a permanent solution.
“Twenty tankers will be gradually added to the existing tankers, bringing the total to 54 being sent to the areas,” the city said.

Yesterday, the municipality had commissioned the cross-connection from its Hocking Reservoir to Washington Heights Reservoir.
This new development enabled the water supply to KwaSanti, Luganda, Klaarwater, Washington Heights, Intake, Savannah Park, Nagina, Nsizwakazi and Dema.
The municipality says a contractor has been appointed to fix the broken pump at Northdene and stakeholders have been engaged with an intention of fast-tracking the process of getting the pump resuming its operations.

They also urge residents who are preventing trucks to be considerate and refrain from doing so. Social distancing is encouraged when collecting water from the tankers.
