Medics have spoken of how a 3-year-old child was miraculously brought back to life, after a near drowning incident at Kingsway Beach in Amanzimtoti.
The child had been swimming yesterday afternoon when he disappeared under water.
Lifeguards spotted the boy in distress and swam out to save him.
ER24's Russel Meiring says they began to perform CPR immediately.
"With something like this, is the child being submerged for a short time would lead to lack of signs of life. This is where, obviously, the lifeguards immediately assessed the patient and found tat he was not breathing and didn't have any pulse. CPR would need to be started as quickly as possible in an effort to save and revive the patient. Fortunately, in this instance, the child was successfully resuscitated," he says.
Meiring says the boy is still recovering in hospital.
