'Business as usual' for KZN transport operators

The SA National Taxi Council says its members won't be downing keys in response to calls online about a planned national shutdown. 

 

But it intends on meeting with KZN Premier Sihle Zikalala on Friday over the reasons for the strike. 

 

Messages have been widely shared on social media, with groups and individuals, calling for a shutdown action over soaring fuel price hikes. 

 

The council indicated that it won't be joining demonstrations as it wants to discuss the matter with the government first.

Meanwhile, eThekwini Municipality says metro police are on high alert on Friday. 

 

Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda has appealed to those taking part in the strike, to protest peacefully. 

 

He says lawbreakers will be dealt with.
