One year after Jada Pinkett Smith's discussed her "entanglement" with August Alsina, Will Smith is getting real about his 23-year marriage.

Will Smith admits he and Jada have both had sexual relationships outside of their marriage. He told GQ magazine that their marriage started as a monogamous one, but they started to argue a lot. They both became miserable and needed to make a change.

He says Jada has "never believed in a conventional marriage".

"Jada had family members that had an unconventional relationship. So she grew up in a way that was very different than how I grew up.  There were significant endless discussions about, what is relational perfection? What is the perfect way to interact as a couple? And for the large part of our relationship, monogamy was what we chose, not thinking of monogamy as the only relational perfection," he told the publication.

“We have given each other trust and freedom, with the belief that everybody has to find their own way. And marriage for us can’t be a prison," the 'Bad Boys' actor added.

Details about their unconventional marriage feature in Will's upcoming self-titled memoir, which is due for release in November.

Jada made headlines in 2020 after August Alsina revealed he had a romantic relationship with the actress. He claimed that Will had given them his blessing.

Jada initially denied the claims, but later admitted it in a discussion on her Facebook Watch series, 'Red Table Talk'.

She described their encounter as an "entanglement", adding that she was separated from Will at the time.

"We were over. From there, as time went on, I got into a different kind of entanglement with August," she said.

The word "entanglement"  trended on social media for days and has been turned into countless memes.

Will's "sad" face during the Red Table Talk discussion also became one of the best memes of 2020.
